[Miryang, Gyeongnam] Autumn in Miryang, 2 of the 8 main sceneries

[Miryang, Gyeongnam] Autumn in Miryang, 2 of the 8 main sceneries

The “main sceneries” of a city series has begun long ago when our Korean ancestors used to describe the key spots of their communities by poems, songs and drawings. In Miryang, there are eight main sceneries that seem compulsory to add on your itinerary when visiting the Gyeongnam city: the Yeongnam Pavilion nightscape, the four seasons at Pyochung Temple, Hobakso Valley, Wolyeon Pavilion, Wuiyang Pond, Yipab Tree, the Manseo Temple clouds, the azaleas of Mount Jongnam and the silver grass of Mount Jaeyak.

Today, we will introduce two locations of the eight aforementioned: the clouds seen from Manseo Temple and the silver grass of Mount Jaeyak.

The Clouds of Maneo Temple

Autumn is the best time of year to go hiking, and in Miryang, nothing beats Mount Maneo (670 meters), where the seasonal foliage is strikingly beautiful.

At Maneo Temple, located midway up the mountain, you’ll find Daewungjeon, a type of Buddhist sanctuary, as well as a three-story ancient stone pagoda.

At one corner of the temple, you’ll discover the 5-meters-high Mireuk Stone, also known as the Mireuk Buddhist Statue. Legend has it that the Dragon King’s son has transformed into that stone for some unknown reason. There’s also a saying that the stone grows 0.3 centimeters every year, and that water falls from the right side whenever a grave case occurs in the country.

An epic scene of Nakdong River, Mount Maneo and Mount Gucheon is seen from the temple as well, and it only gets better during early morning. The very clouds are one of Miryang’s eight main sceneries, and just by seeing it, many locals say they feel like a Taoist hermit.

The silver grass of Mount Jaeyak

We’ve introduced the emerald-blue sea of Gyeongnam on several occasions, but did you know there’s a sea of golden silver grass in Miryang, too?

<Mount Jaeyak is a trending autumn hiking venue.>

Mount Jaeyak (1,189 meters) may take quite a long time to climb up, but don’t throw in the towel midway, because an endless field of silver grass is waiting for you at the top of the mountain. There are several hiking courses to reach there, and most take about five to seven hours to return back to the ground.
