<Jangsa Island’s Camellia Tunnel.>
▶ Pass by a tunnel of camellia flowers on
Jangsa Island
Jangsa Island gained fame after the airing
of the hit drama “My Love From the Star” (2013-4), starring Kim Soo-hyun and
Jun Ji-hyun. Couples usually frequent the area for a glimpse of the romance
portrayed on television, between Kim and Jun.
A 40-minute ferry ride to the island is
provided at Tongyeong Port, and it takes around two hours to tour around.
Visitors to the island can find around
1,000 different species of plants and antique buildings.
<The peak of Jangsa Island, located 100
meters above sea level, is reachable by a popular hiking trail.>
There’s also the Rainbow Bridge, located at
the center of the island, from which you can relish a sensational view of the
clear-blue sky and sparkly ocean.
Among all the interesting features on the
island, the Camellia Tunnel is the most popular site, as the 60-meter-long road
made out of 100,000 250-year-old camellias will most likely put you in awe.
In order to reach Jangsa Island, either
start from Tongyeong or Geoje. Fees range between 25,000 won and 29,500 won,
including entrance to the island.

single glance
Dongpirang Village has been the film set of
numerous local dramas and movies due largely to its impressive wall paintings.
The village is filled with murals ranging
from the Little Prince to Tom and Jerry, all starting from the entrance to the
top of the hill.
The "alley gallery" begins five
minutes up the entrance, where you'll begin to see paintings of undersea
creatures and animals.
<Relish a cup of coffee at Dongpirang
Village, the film set of hit drama "The Innocent Man"
(2012), starring Song Joong-ki and Moon Chae-won.>
Also at the village will you find the Slow
Mailbox, which sends mails to the recipients a month later, and the Dongpo
Pavilion, where you can see Tongyeong Port in a single glance.
Towards the sunset, visit a cafe near the
top of the village and drink a cup of coffee while relishing a stunning view of
the ocean, boats and murals. There's a wide variety to choose from, including
those that were filmed in local tv productions. A cup of coffee costs around
2,000 won on average, much cheaper than the ones you'll find in Seoul.
