South Sea is dubbed the treasure island due to its abundant resources, and there are various places you can visit to catch a glimpse of just how rich it is. Out of all those places, we would like to introduce you to the Munhang Fishing Experience Village, which is renowned as the best place in all of Korea to experience tideland wildlife.

Located in Namhae County, Gyeongnam, the fishing village can be reached by taking a city bus and getting off at the Okdong Bus Stop.

After you arrive at the village, pick and choose the experience programs you'd like to join, purchase your tickets, then start right away. Costs vary among programs, but normally range between 10,000 won and 15,000 won. Tickets for children cost 5,000 won in general, while those for toddlers are free when accompanied by parents.

Equipment for the program is provided free at the spot, but participants must personally prepare their own boots and gloves, or pay an extra rental fee of 2,000 won.

Worried that it's your first time on tideland? There's no need to feel the jitters because professional fishermen will be standing right beside you to demonstrate every step of the way. Children can easily follow instructions, too.

After you pick up the basics on tideland, you'll be guided to move nearer to the ocean to catch clams. With a few digs, you'll soon have a whole bucket full of food.

Not only can you catch clams at the village, but also crabs and sea snails among many others, too. But because the site is designed purely for experience, each person can leave with only a single basket of catch.

And other than the Tideland Experience Program, don't forget to try the Gaemaki Fishing Experience Program, too! Gaemaki is an old fishing method used to catch gray mullets and gizzard shads. Stretch a fishing net on a bay when the tide is rising, then catch fish with your bare hands or a scoop net at low tide.

Other than the experience programs, you'll also find yourself delighted by a pair of islands near the village, called Sangjang Island and Hajang Island. Twice a day when the water is low, you can get lucky enough to see an S-shaped sea route connecting the islands and village.

Before you leave for Munhang Fishing Experience Village, make sure you check the tide time schedule in advance, because experience programs are highly dependent on that matter.
