[Jinju, Gyeongnam] Cold noodles and beef pancakes

[Jinju, Gyeongnam] Cold noodles and beef pancakes

Never leave Jinju without a bite of naengmyeon (cold noodles) and yukjeon (beef pancake), and never leave a restaurant without trying them both together.

Cold noodles are served in many - if not most - eateries in Korea during hot days, but nowhere beats the top three cities when it comes to presenting the most scrumptious summer delights: Pyeongyang in North Korea, Hamheung and Jinju.

Unlike cold noodles served in other cities that mainly broil short ribs in hot water to make the soup, Jinju-style noodles use anchovies, shrimps and Manila clams instead. Vinegar and mustard are sometimes added for an extra sour kick, too.

The noodles themselves are also one-of-a-kind, too, because they're made out of buckwheat, cultivated from nearby clear-zones.

One fantastic way to try out Jinju-style cold noodles is by eating them with beef pancake, or a fried combination of eggs, vegetables and beef. When eating pancakes alone, slightly dip the slices in soy sauce.

Cold noodles range between 7,000 won and 9,000 won. Beef pancakes range around 15,000 won.
