[Sacheon, Gyeongnam] Soar through the sky

[Sacheon, Gyeongnam] Soar through the sky

Chosun.com Media Reporting Team media@chosun.com

The Wright brothers in 1903 became the first men in the world to pilot the first powered airplane. Although the flight merely covered 32 meters and lasted 12 seconds, it held great historic significance because they were the first to invent aircraft controls, making possible fixed-wing flights.

And because they instilled hope in some people that humans may fly one day.

Over a century has passed since then and airplanes have been developed to be part of our lives. But to fulfill that long, childish fantasy of soaring through the air with the wind rushing through your air, we have the perfect place for you to visit: the Sacheon Aerospace Expo and Namildae Beach, both located in Sacheon, Gyeongnam.

# Sacheon Aerospace Expo

The Sacheon Aerospace Expo is held every September for three days, and features 59 different sorts of adventures in various fields, including the highlight of all: airshows.

There's also the "marine airshow" held in conjunction with the program at Samcheonpo Bridge Park, and various other aircraft demonstrations showing latest domestic carriers.

At one program called the Aerospace Experience Camp, participants learn how to manipulate an aircraft and get on a mini-boat, among others. There's also the Aviation Experience Hall at which visitors can ride on a glider and put together model airplanes.

The Aircraft Experience program includes a motor-paragliding ride that has similar manipulating features as an actual aircraft. For those who want to ride the KT-1 Simulator, a device used for training actual pilots, reservations are necessary.

<Namildae Beach Eco-Line>

# The "Eco-Line" at Namildae Beach

Namildae Beach is one Gyeongnam's most top-quality beaches due in part to its crystal-clear waters. The water is so transparent that the even the sea floor is visible!

Another reason that makes the 700-meter-long and 500-meter-wide beach so desirable, is that it flanks impressive, bizarre-shaped cliffs. Walk 15 minutes east from the beach, and you'll also find a pack of rocks shaped as elephants and turtles.

Strolling along the coast, you'll see people flying by on a zip-line, or an aerial rope-slide, which refers to a ride from the top to the bottom of an inclined cable by holding onto a moving pulley.

The zip-line program at Namildae Beach is exclusively called the "eco-line," and it picked up momentum not long ago when a local entertainment show aired casts enjoying the ride. Fees are 9,000 won (adults) or under. Safety instructions are told before the ride, like putting your hair back in a neat pony tail, making sure objects in your pocket doesn't fly off, and wearing a helmet, among others.

The inclined cable is 185 meters-long, but it only takes less than half a minute to arrive at your final destination. Moving at a speed of 60 kilometers per hour, you'll be amazed how much thrill you'll feel up in the air.
