Add the autumn wind with a silent night, air of romance and beautiful lights - you get the Jinju Namgang Yudeung Festival! Founded in 2001, the annual festival that opens every October is renowned as one of the best festivals both domestically and internationally. It was chosen as Korea's best festival for three consecutive years since 2011, and awarded with four medals in 2012 by the International Festivals and Events Association. The local festival portrays the military tactics from the Imjin War (1592-1598) when Japan invaded Korea.

Before heading down to the festival, why not stop by the Jinju Fortress? It was chosen as one of the 50 main tourist attractions in Korea by CNN GO.
The fortress was one of the main battlefields of the Imjin War (1592-1598) when Japan invaded Korea. The legendary story of Nongae especially depicts the bravery of a young girl who risked her life for the country.
Jinju Fortress is located right next to the Nam River (Namgang), so don't miss this chance to study a bit of Korean history!

On the opening day of the festival, save a seat on the bridge, not the riverside. Fireworks will light the silent night sky in celebration of the autumn carnival, which breathtaking view the bridge will guarantee.
Soon after the fireworks, the lanterns on Namgang will shine one by one, lightening the tranquil waters like stars in the sky.
After the fireworks, take a stroll in the glowy tunnels lined along the riverside; the fairy tale-atmosphere will add more romance to the deepening night.

Pass the tunnel, and an opening view of the lights floating on the Nam River (Namgang) will welcome you. Not only are there Korean lanterns, but also those from various other countries like the U.S., Japan, Russia, India, Thailand, Egypt and Spain. There is also a special lantern that carries people's wishes.

The glistening Jinju Fortress located right next to the Nam River creates another source of beauty worthwhile to watch during the dark autumn night.

Disappointed that the lanterns seem so far away? No worries; take a walk on the Love Bridge or embark on the cruise. At Namgang near the festival, there are four Love Bridges that are said to strengthen ties between lovers and friends.

Crossing the bridge at the Nam River (Namgang) will create an illusion that you are walking in between the beautiful lights. You can even ride the cruise, which runs three times a day, to get a closer look at the lanterns.
