Tongyeong's Dongpirang Mural Village, the street gallery

Valparaiso is a small village is Chile enlisted on the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Houses various colors make the location a one-of-a-kind art piece. 

Don't go all the way to Chile for the playful vibe though, because Korea has its very own Dongpirang Mural Village in the southern port city, Tongyeong! After several films and TV dramas were filmed there, the village has become a hot tourist attraction you are bound to enjoy.

Dongpirang Mural Village is saturated with wall paintings all the way from the main entrance to the top of the hill. You will find the Little Prince along with Tom and Jerry. 

The tour begins about five minutes after you walk up from the entrance gate. Swim through the ocean while seeing an undersea painting, or wander in the woods with wild animals. Some of the most popular murals include a wall painting of angel wings.

The mural village is not only filled with murals, but also a "slow mailbox" and Dongporu, a Korean traditional style of architecture. 

You can enjoy a clear view of Tongyeong Harbor at Dongporu; the fish boats sailing out far away with the glowing sun sizzling its last breath is a romantic scene you will cherish forever.

Drop by one of the exotic cafes at the top of the village when the sun sets. Relish freshly roasted coffee which costs as less as 2,000 won, almost half the price of what you'll find in downtown city areas. Try a cup made by an elder woman in grey hair, or another by the main character of drama "The Innocent Man" (2012).
