[Geochang County, Gyeongnam] Healthy dishes to last the shivery winter 

From broiled short ribs to ground loach in hot bean past soup, Geochang County is an up-and-rising tourist attraction for those who are out on the road searching for nutritious local menus.

Chueotang, known as ground loach in hot bean paste soup, is a healthy menu item with abundant protein, calcium and mineral. 

Geochang is so famous for the local dish that there's an entire street lined with eateries mainly serving only that. Chueotang is simple to eat because loach is all neatly ground without the head, bones or organs. 

Eotangguksu, or fish stew noodles, is similar to chueotang except that it contains noodles, not rice.

Cows in Geochang have long been renowned for having big builds, which is how restaurants there picked up the idea to specialize in braised short ribs. Especially in Wondongmaeul, or Wondong Village, there's a place called Galbijjim Goeul, or Braised Short Rib Zone, where numerous restaurants' flagship dish is braised short ribs. 

Short ribs here are braised in a large caldron, and then grilled with chili sauce, mixed with ground pears. Many people say the secret ingredient are the pears, because only a few know exactly how many of the fruit is needed for the sauce to produce the perfect sauce. 

After a large pan of broiled short ribs usually come the mixed rice, known as bokkeumbap.

From Busan to Geochang, 12 rides are available at the Busan Seobu Inter-City Bus Terminal each day. From Daegu to Geochang, bus rides are offered every 20 to 30 minutes from the Daegu Seobu Bus Terminal until 11 p.m.
