[Geochang County, Gyeongnam] A sound body, a sound mind

[Geochang County, Gyeongnam] A sound body, a sound mind

Everywhere you face in Geochang County, you'll see mountains with heights of over 1,000 meters, crystal-clear waters in valleys and trees of pure-green hue.

No wonder why late poets used to frequent Geochang for inspirations for their work. In this post, we will introduce some key places in Geochang to exhale whatever anxiety is piling up inside of you.

▶ Suseong Pavilion

Suseong Pavilion is a 10-meter-high natural rock that sits in a forestry scenery. Literally meaning "a view that is so beautiful that you'll forget all your worries," Suseong Pavilion was also a filming set for the SBS drama "That Winter, The Wind Blows" (2013), starring Jo In-sung and Song Hye-kyo.

During the hot, summer days, visitors swim in the valley, while in winter, sleighing becomes an alternative.

▶ Hwangsan Village and its elegant stone walls

Designated as one of Korea's most beautiful villages, Hwangsan Village in Geochang County is divided into two parts, based on a narrow stream that flows in between: one side, which features traditional Korean houses, and the other side which displays colorful murals.

The stone walls enveloping old houses create an elegant scene that best shows the poise in traditional Korean culture.

Across the stream, you will find murals with historic and scenic paintings drawn on them, like a cow or animal-shaped rocks.

There's no need to rush to leave when visiting the Hwangsan Village, for overnight cultural experiences are provided at the hanok, or traditional houses.

▶ Wash down all your stress at the Gajo Hot Springs

There's nothing like a warm bath after a long day of work; and when it comes to seasonal vacations, the Gajo Hot Springs in Geochang would be the best place to soothe at, as the near 30-year-old resort features alkaline waters effective for your skin.

Among the numerous hot spring facilities, only the Baekdusan Cheonji Hot Springs is currently open for public.

The water at Gajo Hot Springs is full of zinc, sodium and magnesium, which is why it may feel a bit slippery. Sulfur is what prevents aging skin and arthritis, and alkaline neutralizes your acidified body.
